The Hirajeta Tarot is a dynamic addition to my Tarot of the QTPOC project highlighting decks that feature queer/trans/non-binary folx or people of color or any combination thereof.
From the artist:
I think you'll find in this deck something that is missing from all other tarot sets and that's life's gritty nature. So many other sets are either overly positive in their meaning or imagery. Even the ones that are meant to be "dark" fall a bit short from how you are feeling when you are at your lowest. Even with the fantastical concepts and occasionally bright colors The Hirajeta Tarot calls out those who recognize "rock bottom" and relate to it's lessons. Because we all know that rarely does anyone seek a reading when everything seems to be in the clear.
Created by artist Danny Hirajeta of Iron Clown Studios, The Hirajeta Tarot deck's art is bracing, diverse, gripping, and way on that side of out there. So of course I love it.
While I can't speak to whether the artist intended on the queerness of this deck, I certainly read it as queer, and not just because it's so weird .
As for diversity, it is certainly that. I love its art, based on richly sourced allusions and archetypes that will resonate for black and brown tarot users in a variety of ways.
Where to get this deck? (08/10/17 - We have an update from the artist themselves!)
They've got plenty in stock and awaiting your order.
And y'all know how I feel about supporting artists so that they can continue to eat, thrive, and be brilliant. Here's where to find Danny Hirajeta:
