Lemons are often used for their cutting and clear qualities. They are mama nature's answer to clean and fresh. Part of the fun of making lemonade is the wonderful scent that permeates the room as you work, seeming to lift the energy of your space the longer you squeeze. I like to breathe deeply in these moments, allowing myself to clear as well. It becomes easy to understand why they are ancient moon magic used to cleanse, protect, and invigorate.
On a whim, I made some lemonade from scratch today. As I worked through the lemons, my eyes were continuously drawn to the drained lemon halves. Even after I finished, I couldn't bring myself to throw them away. There was more work to be done.
Here's what I ended up conjuring!
Lemonade Cup Cutting Spell
Cutting spells are used to clear out unwanted energy. Use them to more definitively cut the cord with whatever no longer serves you. An old tenet of woo is that before you request particular energies, you must first clear out to make room for the light you seek.
1. Pour sea salt into a squeezed lemon half.
2. Add bitter herbs as you are called to. In this instance I used three: hyssop, sage, and comfrey for cleansing and protection. Pack the herbs lightly into the lemon cup, speaking your intention.
Lemonade Cup Sweetening Spell*
Sweetening spells and bringing spells are used to bring a desired energy closer to you. If you have been experiencing a lot of blockage, it may be necessary to cut and clear before performing a sweetening spell.
1. Pour honey into a squeezed lemon half.
2. Add sweet herbs as you are called to. In this instance I used three: lavender, rose, and jasmine for upliftment and peace. Pack the herbs lightly into the lemon cup, speaking your intention.
With sweet herbs, or any other edible herbs you add, you may infuse some separately into tea and add that to the fresh lemonade you just made for an extra dash of magic and flavour.
*NOTE: Lemons are rarely if ever used in bringing magic. In this moment though using a lemon felt right. I felt deeply the lesson being taught: carrying the sweet and restoring even as we move through the difficult and sour- even as we are the difficult and sour, we hold capacity for nourishing and restoring ourselves.
We've also drained most of the sour juice from the lemon by this point. However, if the lemons still feel like too much, switch out the lemon with a citrus of your choice (like oranges or tangerines).
Step 3 for either spell is the same:
Use as a meditation focus, on an object, or even rub on your hands or the bottom of your feet (or really, any part of your body you'd like to move energy from) as needed. If you use on your body be sure to rub lightly and wash soon after. In addition, please make sure you aren't allergic to any of the herbs you use and use externally only and never on wounds or cuts.
Freeze any unused prepared lemon cup spells for future use. With some additional prep and intention, these can also work as part of a freezing spell.
